Going Green...

Broadwater Guest House Green Policy                    February 2011

We don’t want to make a song and dance about the climate change or green debate but here at the Broadwater we do believe that we have a responsibility to ensure that the planet is passed on to our grandchildren in the best state we can. Resources are finite and will run out at some stage.
We believe that each individual can make choices and that it does make a difference.

We are committed to continuously look at ways to improve upon the measures we are currently doing and to look for new measures to implement. We also commit to comply with the relevant                 environmental legislation.
We will monitor our progress throughout the year and review our findings on an annual basis with a view to reduce our energy and water consumption and minimise our waste.
What we are currently doing:

· Recycling of plastic, cardboard, glass and paper
· Recycled office supplies
· Email and online booking to save paper
· Fitted low energy light bulbs in all rooms and public areas of the guest house
· Changed our cleaning products to Eco friendly
· Changed toilet paper, room tissues, kitchen roll and napkins to 100% recycled
· Using a more Eco friendly way to provide guest toiletries
· Stopped using small glass jars of jam and marmalade for breakfast
· Stopped using individual butter portions
· Organised local information for guests in the residents lounge with lots of ideas on things to do in the surrounding area and suggestions for ‘car free’ days out
· Information on local public transport with maps and time tables in the residents lounge
· Monitoring our electric, gas and water consumption and looking for ways we can save

Ongoing Refurbishment programme:
Finish all the double glazing by                   November 2011
Fit a new condensing boiler by                    November 2011

What you can do if you wish to participate:

· We want you to be warm so feel free to use the electric heaters in your room, however,
please ensure you turn off electric heaters and lights before leaving your room and      ensure electric heaters are turned off before opening windows
· Towels in the bath/shower tray mean you need them to be changed, towels on the rail means that you are happy to use them again
· Let us know as soon as possible if you have a dripping tap so we can arrange to get it fixed
· Walk/use public transport or hire a bike instead of using your car for some of the days during your holiday – lots of ideas can be found in the residents lounge
· Only use the waste bin in your room for non-recyclable waste, please use the                 appropriate recycling box available on the ground floor to dispose of your glass,         newspapers, plastic drinks bottles/cans etc.
· We will safely dispose of any spent batteries you may have rather than you put them in the room bins
· Please do not flush nappies/sanitary waste down the toilet. Please put these in the sanitary bags provided in your bathroom and place in the covered bathroom bin for disposal.

If you have any ideas that can help us be ‘more green’ just let us know
Thank You Alex and Jean Blore
